Toulouse (toolooz) Toulouse (city in France)

    • At the beginning of a word, s is pronounced as “s“:

super (sewpehr)   super

  • Letter e:
    • e is pronounced as  “uh” at the end of words if the words have one syllable:

1 syllable: je (zhuh)   I

Otherwise e e at the end of words is silent!

Tu es. (tew eh)   You are.

Present tense of verbs of the first group

  •  First group = verbs with the ending –er (ay) as habiter (ahbeetay) = to live
  •  The ending -er reads like “ay”.
  •  The present tense of the verbs of the first group (part 1):

J’habit + e habite. (zhahbeet)   I live.

Tu habit + eshabites. (tew ahbeet)   You live.

Elle habit + ehabite.(ehl ahbeet)   She lives.

  •   Je (zhuh)   I + h → j’ (zh)   I
  •   The first group = regular verbs.
  •   We recommend using these verbs, it’s easy!
